Bucher Municipal compared its street sweeper design versions with CFD to increase performance

Bucher Municipal, a global supplier of municipal vehicles, needed to increase the efficiency of its street sweeper by optimizing the suction duct and particle collection chamber. To gain a fuller picture of airflow without building multiple physical prototypes, the engineering team used SimScale’s cloud-based CFD to compare design versions and guide design decisions.

Using SimScale, Bucher Municipal prepared CAD models, generated meshes, and ran simultaneous CFD simulations (each on 32-core machines) to compare outlet positioning and study dust removal, fan impeller behavior, and chamber performance. The SimScale-driven workflow delivered faster results, enabled additional design changes without physical prototypes, improved overall sweeper efficiency, and produced measurable impact — including an average hardware savings of $40k.
