Team 193 Implantable Planar Antenna Simulation with ANSYS HFSS in the Cloud

Ozen Engineering, a firm specializing in engineering simulation, faced the computational challenge of simulating an implantable antenna inside a detailed, full human body model to analyze its performance and electromagnetic radiation effects. This type of simulation is extremely complex and time-consuming due to the large model size, requiring significant high-performance computing (HPC) resources that surpassed the capabilities of their local desktop workstation. To overcome this, they worked with vendor Simr (UberCloud).

The solution implemented by Simr involved providing on-demand access to a 40-core cloud server with 256 GB RAM through UberCloud's HPC software container, which came pre-configured with ANSYS HFSS and its Optimetrics and HPC tools. This ready-to-use environment allowed Ozen Engineering to run their simulations about four times faster than on their local 16-core machine. The measurable impact was the successful optimization of the antenna design and the characterization of its Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), ensuring it met safety standards, all within an extremely user-friendly cloud platform.
