Airbag Simulation with ANSYS LS-DYNA on UberCloud and Azure

The Automobile Airbags Company needed to run a technically complex airbag inflation simulation that required solving high-density mesh models, a task that was nearly impossible to complete in an acceptable time on a normal workstation. Their challenge was a trade-off between the accuracy of fine meshes and the prohibitively long runtimes they caused.

The vendor, Simr, provided a solution using the UberCloud platform with ANSYS LS-DYNA on Microsoft Azure. This HPC cloud environment drastically reduced process time, enabling the team to solve a fine mesh model of ~132K cells in under 30 minutes, a result unachievable on local hardware. Simr's pre-installed tools and UberCloud containers eliminated the need for IT setup, allowing for easy access and smooth execution of the complex simulation runs.
