The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) faced a challenge with its manual, paper-based process for Motor Carrier Permit applications and renewals. This system required constituents to mail in forms or visit an office, leading to a high rate of rejected submissions and an inefficient back-office operation where employees spent nearly twenty minutes manually keying data into legacy systems. To modernize this experience and create a digital service channel, the DMV partnered with SimpliGov for its workflow automation and online forms platform.

SimpliGov's solution, which integrated with UiPath’s robotics process automation, digitized the entire workflow. It provided an online form with pre-validation checks and used bots to automate back-end data entry, drastically improving data quality and processing speed.
