Visit Santa Barbara, a destination marketing organization, faced a major crisis after the 2017 wildfires and subsequent mudslide damaged the area’s image and depressed tourism. Outdated, fire-torn photos continued to circulate in the media and among partners, making it difficult to communicate that Santa Barbara was safe and open for visitors. Simpleview’s Barberstock digital asset management platform helped the team quickly organize and distribute current photos and videos for crisis communications.
Simpleview supported Visit Santa Barbara by creating a Public Collection called “Membership Toolkit” in Barberstock and filling it with recent, time-stamped visuals from local photographers and videographers. The collection was shared with partners, stakeholders, and on the website, helping replace outdated imagery with accurate content. As a result, tourism began to recover, local businesses saw more visitors return, and Visit Santa Barbara also gained a lasting PR crisis plan plus analytics to track asset downloads and distribution.
