Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge (VBR) needed a better way to share local dining information during COVID-19 after its initial Google Sheet of delivery and takeout options proved difficult to navigate and wasn’t mobile-friendly. The destination marketing team turned to Simpleview and its Map Publisher product to create a more user-friendly directory for residents and visitors.
Using Simpleview’s Map Publisher, VBR imported its restaurant data and built seven county-specific maps plus one for craft beverages, later adding a map for restaurants with outdoor patio seating. The solution quickly gained traction, with the takeout maps page becoming the most-viewed page on VBR’s website and generating nearly 5,000 pageviews in April, while also attracting attention from news outlets, local stakeholders, and government entities.
