Keeping Union Members in the Loop with Text Message Reminders

IBEW Local 1593, a union representing about 1,200 electrical workers across 21 units in North and South Dakota, struggled to reach members with email reminders for meetings and events—many messages went unread or were seen too late. To fix this communication gap they turned to SimpleTexting for a text message reminder system, including a web sign-up form and the SimpleTexting application to manage subscribers.

SimpleTexting implemented an opt‑in web form that automatically adds members to the union's subscriber list and sends timely SMS reminders for meetings and events. The union reports strong member feedback, improved on‑time awareness, and fewer empty seats at meetings and parties, and is now expanding to unit‑specific reminders and exploring SimpleTexting’s MailChimp Sync to further streamline outreach.
