How the Guatemalan Mayan Center Reaches Its Community Using SimpleTexting

The Guatemalan Mayan Center (GMC) is a community-based nonprofit serving uprooted children and families in Palm Beach County. Before the pandemic, GMC relied on WhatsApp groups to communicate with community members, but that approach was less efficient and less private. The team needed a better way to reach a multilingual community quickly, personally, and in a way that was easy to use.

Using SimpleTexting’s mass texting and MMS messaging platform, GMC shifted to one-to-one text communication that could include audio, images, and video. SimpleTexting helped GMC share COVID-19 testing information, emergency hurricane alerts, and appointment openings, while also increasing participation and engagement at meetings and events. The center said SimpleTexting became its most effective tool for reaching the community.
