Case Study: Dartmouth College builds entrepreneurial training for cancer innovators with Simbex

A SimBex Case Study

Dartmouth College trains 80 innovators and sparks $1M+ in funding with SimBex

Dartmouth College, through its Magnuson Center for Entrepreneurship and Dartmouth Cancer Center, faced the challenge of providing its cancer researchers with real-world entrepreneurial training. These academic researchers needed a foundation in entrepreneurship to translate their findings into marketable products and services but lacked the necessary knowledge base and access to industry experts. They engaged the vendor Simbex to develop and deliver the educational component of their Dartmouth Innovations Accelerator for Cancer (DIAC) program.

Simbex developed a comprehensive accelerator course framework, providing content and commercialization expertise. The solution included workshops and weekly units covering topics like pitching, regulatory processes, and financial planning, which taught researchers how to communicate with investors and think critically about commercial potential. As a result of working with Simbex, the DIAC program has seen significant outcomes: 80 participants across 35 teams have generated over $1 million in awards, 15 invention disclosures, 7 patents, and 3 start-ups, successfully fostering a commercialization mindset within the Dartmouth research community.
