A SimBex Case Study
Augmental, a San Francisco-based startup, was developing the MouthPad^, a hands-free, mouth-controlled computer interface designed to improve digital access for individuals with limited hand use. They sought assistance from Simbex to tackle persistent technical and commercialization challenges to transition their MVP into a more mass-producible product and potentially a medical device.
Simbex conducted a comprehensive Phase 0 project, providing strategic guidance on regulatory pathways and reimbursement, plus detailed technical reviews from its electrical, firmware, and systems engineering teams. This collaboration resulted in actionable recommendations, including circuit design changes estimated to improve battery life by 1.5x and manufacturing process improvements to increase efficiency and standardization. The project helped Augmental refine its commercialization strategy and advance the development of its innovative assistive technology.
