Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council - Customer Case Study

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council needed to improve accessibility across multiple websites with very limited internal resources. Carly Dixon, the council’s Web Strategy and Development Manager, had no prior accessibility background and was tasked with driving awareness, buy-in, and change across several teams and third-party suppliers. Silktide was chosen after an earlier testing platform failed to provide clear, useful guidance.

Using Silktide’s accessibility testing and reporting platform, the council was able to identify issues, explain them in plain language, and share quick wins across departments. Silktide helped non-experts understand the impact of their work, improved internal engagement, and supported readability improvements, with the council aiming for a 9-year reading age across its sites. Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council also said Silktide is now part of its new website build, and the team described the investment as worthwhile because it made accessibility more manageable and actionable.
