Case Study: Kirklees Council improves accessibility and workflow with Silktide

A Silktide Case Study

Preview of the Kirklees Council Case Study

From Every a11y Tool to a Single User-friendly Platform

Kirklees Council, a metropolitan council serving around 420,000 people, needed a simpler way to manage accessibility across a hard-coded website and multiple third-party sites. Before using **Silktide**, the team relied on a mix of ad hoc tools, free browser plugins, and one-off reports that were hard to interpret and didn’t provide full coverage or historical tracking.

With **Silktide**, Kirklees Council consolidated accessibility monitoring into a single, user-friendly platform for its main site, forms site, and news site. The team used the tool’s plain-English guidance, help links, and benchmarking to embed accessibility into their workflow, improving their accessibility score from about 87 to 95 and aiming for the top 30 in the Silktide Index. They also strengthened procurement checks, added accessibility-focused questions, and gained better visibility into PDFs and other content owned by third parties.
