BANF boosts AV fleet efficiency by up to 20% with Silicon Labs

The customer BANF, a leading intelligent tire system company, faced the challenge of collecting valuable real-time data from tires, a brutal environment for electronics. Traditional tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) were primitive and could not provide predictive capabilities or granular insights into factors like alignment, friction, and mechanical stress, limiting safety and efficiency for autonomous vehicle fleets. This challenge required a solution that could operate continuously under extreme conditions without the limitations of a battery.

BANF implemented a solution using Silicon Labs' BG22 Bluetooth SoC, which was integral to their iSensor. This solution combined BANF's proprietary wireless power delivery with the ultra-efficient BG22 SoC to capture high-frequency, real-time data on acceleration, pressure, temperature, and tread depth. The results achieved by Silicon Labs' technology included up to a 20 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and the potential for zero-accident operation by detecting issues like loose lug nuts and dangerous tread wear before failures occur.
