The customer, ESL Shipping, a maritime transport company, faced the industry-wide challenge of excessive fuel consumption and CO2 emissions caused by vessels rushing to ports only to wait for a berth, a practice known as "hurry to wait." Siili Solutions, in collaboration with Fintraffic and other stakeholders, addressed this through the Virtual Port Arrival initiative.

Siili Solutions implemented the Virtual Port Arrival solution, which integrated data from multiple sources to share real-time information, allowing vessels to optimize their speed and arrival times. This approach resulted in a 24% reduction in CO2 emissions and a 20% reduction in energy consumption. For Finland alone, the projected annual savings were over 135,000 metric tons of CO2 and €45 million in fuel and emissions costs.
