The customer, Stadtwerke Grenchen SWG, faced the challenge of its public luminaires being used linearly and disposed of at end of life. Partnering with vendor Signify and Elektron AG, their goal was to shift to a sustainable model by refurbishing and connecting these old fixtures to a smart system to reduce emissions and increase operational efficiency.

The solution from Signify involved circularly upgrading its first-generation Luma luminaires with a refurbishment kit instead of replacing them. This saved 76% in CO₂ emissions and integrated Zhaga connectivity for Signify's Interact City software. The city now monitors all luminaires in one system, achieving 30% energy savings and major efficiency gains in daily operations.
