Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG adds 3,000 smart light points with Signify

Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG, the municipal energy supplier for the city of Düsseldorf, faced the challenge of improving public lighting to help the city become climate-neutral by 2035. Their goal was to implement demand-based lighting control to enhance quality of life while significantly reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor Signify and their Interact system.

Signify implemented its Interact connected lighting system, beginning with a pilot project and then a full rollout. The solution involved installing networked Philips LumiStreet luminaires, which allowed for flexible individual control. So far, over 3,000 public light points have been added to the system. The city plans to upgrade 3,000 lights per year, with a total of 50,000 luminaires to be converted, which will digitize all of Düsseldorf's switching points and help the city achieve its digitalization and climate goals.
