Los Angeles pilots smart city monitoring across 110,000 street lights with Signify

The city of Los Angeles sought to unlock additional value from its existing connected street lighting infrastructure by exploring new smart city applications. Having already converted a significant number of lights to LED and managed them with Signify's Interact City software, the challenge was to use an open systems approach to gain deeper insights for a more efficient and livable city.

Signify implemented a pilot program that added sensors to the light poles, creating a connected IoT network. This solution enabled environmental monitoring, such as tracking noise levels to help deliver quieter streets, and provided insights into the lighting power grid for more reliable operations. The pilot by Signify demonstrated how the open lighting infrastructure could support a wide variety of evolving smart city applications for Los Angeles.
