SURF streamlines identity verification for eduID with Signicat, enabling EU-wide access and fewer admin burdens

SURF, the IT cooperative for Dutch education and research institutions, faced challenges with fragmented legacy identity systems that created administrative burdens and limited mobility for students and staff moving between institutions or arriving from abroad. They partnered with Signicat and its eID Hub product to develop a trusted, unified digital identity solution called eduID to simplify access and verification.

Signicat's solution integrated bank-based iDIN and eIDAS verification, allowing for secure and reliable identity checks for both domestic and international users. This resulted in a streamlined onboarding process, significantly reduced administrative workload for institutions, and built a trusted, future-ready foundation for digital identity that empowers users with control over their data.
