Case Study: The Guardian achieves fast, secure global video delivery with Signiant's Media Shuttle

A Signiant Case Study

Preview of the The Guardian Case Study

Why The Guardian uses Signiant Media Shuttle to handle global sources of video

The Guardian, a global news organization with major hubs in London, New York and Sydney, faced growing pain from its legacy FTP workflow as video became a core storytelling medium. Reporters around the world were sending ever-larger edited masters and raw rushes that needed fast, reliable delivery to London for legal checks, editing and publishing, but FTP could not meet their speed, reliability or security requirements—especially given frequent network interruptions in the field.

In 2015 the Guardian deployed Signiant’s Media Shuttle, a lightweight, easy-to-deploy file-acceleration platform with brandable portals and checkpoint restart for interrupted transfers. The result was drastically reduced transfer times, seamless resumable uploads, enterprise-grade security and simpler administration; in January 2016 alone the team moved roughly 200 files (including many tens of gigabytes) from locations as far away as Nigeria, enabling faster turnarounds and scaling their growing video operations.
