Preview of the Current TV Case Study

Signiant Keeps Current TV Viewers Current

Current is an Emmy-winning, tapeless news and information network co-founded by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt that blends broadcast and online programming, with roughly one-third of its on-air content coming from user-submitted short-form video “pods” from viewers in more than 51 million households. Faced with large video files moving across a 10GbE infrastructure and the need to capture, evaluate and edit diverse contributions quickly and securely with minimal IT and administrative overhead, Current required a low-latency, reliable digital media distribution solution.

Signiant’s Content Distribution Management and Media Exchange were deployed to enable secure, agent-less, WAN‑accelerated uploads and a file-based workflow that lets more than 100 editors across Los Angeles, San Francisco and London work simultaneously. As a result, Current now ingests content up to 50× faster (uploads in minutes vs. hours), can identify and edit high-priority items quickly, produce about 50 unique pods per week, and integrate the system with existing websites and applications.
