A Signiant Case Study
Signiant provided the backend content-management and automation software that enabled NBC to deliver on-demand video for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Facing a huge jump in broadcast volume (835 hours vs. 419 in 2006), HD/multichannel production, and tight time-sensitive deadlines, NBC needed an optimal workflow and architecture to digitize and publish hundreds of hours of live competition and thousands of replay hours quickly and reliably.
Signiant implemented its file-movement platform with 14 automated workflows to manage, monitor and generate delivery confirmations so URLs could be published immediately. The solution supported 650 hours of VOD, production of 1,700 clips and distribution of 4,000 clips, and helped NBC serve 45 million video streams to 46 million unique viewers (a 243% increase over 2006) with 710 million page views and 3.5 million hours streamed.
