A Signiant Case Study
The National Hockey League (NHL), with 53 million engaged fans across North America, needed a way to deepen fan loyalty and expand exposure to league-wide events by making better use of online video and alternative venue displays. Key challenges included automating ingestion, encoding and compilation of footage, engaging fans outside local markets, improving branding and cross-promotion, and doing so while leveraging existing arena infrastructure and preserving critical scoring and voice services.
Signiant’s file-movement software was deployed in the League’s central data center and all 30 arenas, enabling fast, controlled transfer of large video files over the NHL’s IP network. The solution sped delivery of game highlights to NHL Network Online and arena jumbotrons in near real time, broadened daily programming and cross-league promotion, and did so cost-effectively by using existing connectivity while keeping scoring data and voice communications uninterrupted.
