How Amnesty International uses Signal monitor to verify eyewitness reports of human rights violations

Amnesty International, through its Digital Verification Corps (DVC), faced the challenge of rapidly and reliably verifying large volumes of eyewitness reports of human-rights violations shared on social media. To replace slow, manual TweetDeck workflows and ensure evidence was watertight, Amnesty adopted Signal monitor from Signal AI to support its verification work.

Using Signal monitor, the DVC searched post metadata to pinpoint reports by location and date, surfaced local and non-English sources with rough translations, exported curated article lists, and set up real-time alerts. Signal AI’s platform sharply reduced verification time and manual sifting, and within weeks helped Amnesty International corroborate an eyewitness video of an extrajudicial execution in Mexico—evidence that supported a public call for an impartial investigation.
