Knorr-Bremse launches autonomous yard maneuvering in 3 months with Sigma Software

Knorr-Bremse AG, a leading manufacturer of braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles, sought to combine its proprietary on-board control devices into a cutting-edge automated truck driving technology. Their challenge was to develop an Autonomous Yard Maneuvering (AYM) solution to enable driverless truck maneuvers within a closed yard. Sigma Software was engaged to design and implement the necessary client-server applications and integrate them with Knorr-Bremse's onboard technology.

Sigma Software delivered key components for the AYM system, including a Yard Server, a Yard Operator web interface, and mobile applications for the Driver and Loader. The solution was developed and tested under an extremely short timeline, culminating in successful end-to-end testing with a real truck. As a result, Knorr-Bremse successfully presented the autonomous truck and its AYM applications at the IAA 2016 Commercial Vehicles exhibition.
