Greenland Capital Management Leverages Sigma & Databricks to Achieve Efficiency Gains

Greenland Capital Management, an investment manager in New York City, wanted to give its portfolio managers faster access to data for quantitative analysis and bespoke investment reporting. But its existing approach created too much complexity, required significant developer support, and made it hard to produce responsive, PM-specific reports. Greenland turned to Sigma, alongside Databricks, to remove technical barriers and make data easier to work with across teams.

With Sigma and Databricks, Greenland implemented a streamlined lakehouse-based workflow that lets PMs and analysts access data directly, with Sigma providing a spreadsheet-like interface for analysis and reporting. The result has been broader data engagement, faster onboarding of new investment teams, less production work for developers, and quicker report creation for risk, performance, and alpha tracking. Greenland also reports processing millions of lines of data on Databricks and analyzing them in Sigma, while saving significant time in onboarding new teams.
