Case Study: Bilt speeds self-service analytics and governance with Sigma Computing

A Sigma Computing Case Study

Preview of the Bilt Case Study

How Bilt Crafted a Data Dream Stack—Starting with Sigma

Bilt, the housing and neighborhood commerce network, needed a data stack that could keep up with its fast-moving pod-based organization. Their legacy BI platform was too rigid and slow for new questions, forcing teams into custom SQL, ad hoc queries, and Google Sheets instead of true self-service analytics. Sigma Computing was evaluated as a better fit for Bilt’s needs, especially because it could support both recurring business questions and more complex, one-off analysis.

With Sigma Computing, Bilt rolled out flexible, reusable data models for each pod, along with stronger roles, permissions, and workbook-based self-service workflows. The team reduced manual work, improved governance, and made it easier for business users to work directly in Sigma instead of exporting data elsewhere. Bilt also reported that Sigma helped answer 80% of repeat questions while still handling the remaining 20% of more complex use cases, and that teams now hear from the data team less often because self-service has improved.
