Michigan State University awards 18% more Pell-eligible students with Sierra-Cedar

Michigan State University partnered with Sierra-Cedar to modernize its student systems. The university faced the challenge of replacing its legacy ProSAM system and implementing a new solution to manage student financial planning, all while navigating the complexities of a major project during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sierra-Cedar implemented Oracle Campus Solutions 9.2 and Oracle Student Financial Planning. Despite the project transitioning to a fully remote arrangement, the implementation was highly successful. Sierra-Cedar helped MSU become the first R1 university to launch SFP and the only one to deploy both systems at once. The measurable results included awarding 18% more Pell Grants, rolling out a new institutional grant, and disbursing a record $444 million in student aid.
