A Siemens PLM Case Study
Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Construction Equipment Division, a global maker of excavators, wheel loaders, forklifts and more, faced a crowded market and the strategic goal of becoming a top-five construction equipment supplier by 2010. To speed product development, improve collaboration across global R&D and increase parts commonization, Hyundai Heavy Industries turned to Siemens PLM, adopting NX and Teamcenter as core PLM tools.
Siemens PLM implemented NX and Teamcenter (after a six-month pilot) across HHI’s R&D, deploying 110 NX and 250 Teamcenter licenses and leveraging a 35,000-part standard library. The solution enabled virtual interference checking, early structural/motion/ergonomics simulation, automatic BOM extraction and greater part re-use, revitalizing design processes, increasing productivity and supporting a shorter development cycle for the new 9‑series—measurable gains HHI attributes to Siemens PLM.
