Continental uses ergonomic software to speed production planning for automotive assembly

Continental Automotive Systems used Siemens PLM Tecnomatix and Jack to improve production planning for an automotive assembly project. The company needed a new factory layout for the rear electronic control unit on the Peugeot 407, while also improving material supply, flexibility, worker safety, and ergonomics.

Using Tecnomatix and Jack, Continental simulated more than 70 workstations, tested reach, visibility, collision detection, and biomechanical factors, and refined the layout with production planners and operators. Siemens PLM helped Continental complete the final simulation in only two days, avoid errors that would otherwise have gone undetected, define optimal work zones, and reduce injury risk while improving operator productivity.
