Case Study: PowerFlex achieves scalable edge Kubernetes management with Sidero Labs Omni and Talos Linux

A Sidero Labs Case Study

Preview of the PowerFlex Case Study

PowerFlex runs hundreds of Kubernetes clusters at the edge with Omni to build the future of renewable energy

PowerFlex, a subsidiary of EDF Renewables, faced significant challenges in scaling their edge computing infrastructure for EV charging and power management. Their highly customized deployments led to frequent, costly truck rolls to remote sites, operational overhead, and an inability to support the custom drivers and complex networking required by their industrial hardware. They initially used K3OS but found it lacking, prompting their search for a better solution from Sidero Labs.

Sidero Labs provided PowerFlex with the Omni management platform and the Talos Linux operating system. This solution offered the necessary custom driver support, secure and immutable OS, and robust remote management tools. As a result, PowerFlex eliminated all OS-related truck rolls, streamlined deployments with centralized cluster management for hundreds of sites, and reduced costs by running on smaller, cheaper hardware, enabling them to scale efficiently.
