Journal Métro launches a native mobile news app with Sidekick for Montreal’s local coverage

The customer, Journal Métro, a Montreal newspaper, faced a significant challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic and environmental concerns made the distribution of its print edition via public transport no longer viable. This forced the publication to undertake a digital transformation to survive. The vendor, Sidekick, was engaged to help address this challenge.

Sidekick developed a native iOS and Android mobile application that connected directly to the Journal Métro's existing WordPress CMS. This solution allowed the newspaper's content to be presented in a native mobile format, enabling readers to consume local news and receive alerts on their phones. The app included features for filtering news by neighborhoods and themes.
