Case Study: Drammen Kommune achieves district-wide 1:1 iPad learning and major paperless savings with Showbie

A Showbie Case Study

How the Drammen Kommune District Successfully Went 1:1

Drammen Kommune, a Norwegian municipality, faced slow, fragile classroom technology: roughly 500 students sharing 200 PCs and a complex LMS that made assignments and tech support time-consuming. Determined to move to 1:1 iPads and find apps that were quick to log into, reliable and easy for teachers of varying technical skill levels to adopt, the district selected Showbie as the platform to collect student work and replace their previous LMS.

Showbie was rolled out across the district alongside the iPad program, providing a simple, mobile, paperless workflow that let teachers collect work from apps, give voice feedback and reduce technical failures. The Showbie implementation helped scale the 1:1 rollout in a year, saved about 2,000 kg of paper annually at one school, and produced a stark cost example—Askollen’s annual copying cost of 150,000 kroner (~$22,150) versus Showbie at 20,000 kroner (~$2,950)—while increasing teacher flexibility and student engagement (even attracting a visit from Norway’s Prime Minister).
