How Showbie Streamlined Karmøy Kommune’s 1:1 iPad Program Rollout

Karmøy Kommune, a Norwegian municipality serving about 5,300 students across 21 schools, needed a unified digital workflow after moving to a 1:1 iPad program that exposed limits of paper-based processes and a previously unsuccessful LMS. To support district-wide creation, sharing, and assessment of student work, the municipality adopted Showbie as its primary workflow app.

Showbie was implemented quickly—after a half-day training all 1:1 iPad users converted within months—and the district used Showbie Groups to form a Superuser Group of lead teachers to share best practices. Showbie centralized coursework, eliminated paper, increased teacher–student communication and personalized feedback, freed teachers to spend more face time with students, and drove usage to “skyrocketing” levels; the pilot expanded from 6 to 12 schools and reached the entire district by 2020, with measurable improvements in collaboration and student work quality.
