How Repton School Abu Dhabi Uses Showbie to Teach Students to Be Good Digital Citizens

Repton School Abu Dhabi faced the challenge of turning its 1:1 iPad program into a scalable, secure workflow that would let teachers mark and store student work year over year, provide lesson differentiation, and teach students to be responsible digital citizens. After finding limitations in their initial workflow app, Head of IT and Computing Philippa Wraithmell selected the Showbie app to give students and teachers a more flexible platform for communication, assessment, and digital portfolio management.

Showbie was piloted with approximately 15 teachers in December 2017 and rolled out organically so staff could adopt features that fit their classrooms. Using Showbie groups, portfolios, peer assessment and a parent‑teacher‑student book club, students created cross‑grade forums for the student newspaper and council, increased engagement with extracurriculars, and developed clearer digital citizenship practices; the app’s Arabic interface and plans for schoolwide adoption in fall 2018 support further scaling across Years 3–9 as the school expands.
