How Garden City School District Partnered With Showbie to Make Classroom Instruction More Efficient

Garden City Public Schools, a diverse, often-transient district in western Kansas serving many English Language Learners, faced a major workflow and equity challenge as it expanded iPad use: teachers were photocopying more than 1,000,000 pages of the open-source EngageNY curriculum each year. Seeking an easy-to-use classroom management solution that would reduce paper and require little training, the district piloted Showbie to integrate digital curriculum and streamline instruction.

Showbie worked with Garden City to upload a beta of the EngageNY math (and later ELA) curriculum into the Showbie platform, making materials searchable by grade, topic, or Common Core standard for Showbie Basic and Pro users. As a result—per teachers testing the math beta—photocopying dropped dramatically (at least an 80% reduction for some teachers), the district avoided large printing costs (comparable to a Showbie Pro license), and Showbie improved student organization, parent visibility into work, and assignment management.
