Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department - Customer Case Study

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) sought to address unreported shootings and reduce violent crime in historically disadvantaged neighborhoods. To achieve this, they launched a pilot program to implement ShotSpotter, an acoustic gunshot detection system.

The ShotSpotter solution involved deploying a network of sensors across a six-square-mile coverage area to identify and triangulate gunfire. The results were significant: ShotSpotter identified 527 potential shooting events, with 65% going unreported by citizens. The technology detected 89% of all confirmed shootings, with 42% being identified exclusively by ShotSpotter. This led to the recovery of 792 shell casings from 153 shootings, aiding criminal investigations. The LVMPD found the data valuable for its crime reduction initiatives.
