A Shopify Case Study
Zee.Dog started in Rio de Janeiro to become the top-of-mind pet brand in a fragmented $50B market. After funding initial production through Kickstarter, the founders built direct relationships with Asian manufacturers (no middlemen) to source high-quality, affordable products. The main challenge was scaling internationally—entering the U.S. market and managing logistics while HQ remained in Brazil.
To solve this they launched a U.S. online shop on Shopify (July 23, 2015), used apps like Friendbuy, Olark, Mailchimp and ShipStation, and outsourced fulfillment to a North Carolina warehouse. Growth came from word-of-mouth, brand ambassadors and wholesale channels; Zee.Dog has since dominated the Brazilian market, ranks in the top 2% for traffic and sales among stores launched at the same time, and continues to grow its online channel.
