The Official Moomin Shop - Customer Case Study

The Official Moomin Shop in Helsinki sells licensed Moomin products sourced from over 60 global suppliers to bring merchandise to markets that previously had no access. After launching on a custom Spree store in 2013, the team found it expensive to maintain, slow for users and staff, and lacking sales data — so they needed a scalable, easy-to-manage global e-commerce platform.

They migrated to Shopify in late 2014 and quickly automated many tasks using apps (back-in-stock, persistent cart, Nudge, Zopim + Zendesk, Wholesale) and a manual Postnord integration that prints customs paperwork via Shopify’s API and supports on-demand storage — a killer feature. The result: lean inventory, better customer support, global shipping (about half of sales outside the EU), and growing sales driven by email, Facebook and strong organic search traffic.
