Strobepro is a Calgary-based lighting company started by a photographer frustrated with overpriced brand-name gear. To offer high-quality, affordable alternatives he researched and visited factories in China, invested $25,000 in samples, refined the products with pro feedback, then committed $100,000 to a 40' container and rented a small warehouse to launch his own brand.

He seeded the local market—giving away about $13,000 of gear—to drive word-of-mouth, and built sales through excellent customer service, competitive pricing and growing social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) plus Yotpo reviews.
