A Shopify Case Study
Strange Ways is a curated online shop founded by a former Converse and Puma designer who wanted to showcase independent designers, artists, and small brands with unique, often handmade or limited-run products. The main challenge was shifting from product design to retail: reaching customers beyond local markets, competing with established retailers, and scaling order management and fulfillment while protecting limited inventory.
The solution was to build a Shopify webstore supported by in-person sales via Shopify POS, social media promotion (especially Instagram), and participation in local markets, plus installed apps like Wanelo to increase discoverability. Streamlined tools for inventory sync and shipping (printing labels and buying postage through the dashboard) eliminated manual pain points; as a result the online store now generates the majority of revenue, ships hundreds of items weekly, and has grown into a platform for exclusive collaborations and wider artist exposure.
