Staples Canada, spun out from its U.S. parent, needed to replace a bulky custom ecommerce platform with a solution that was more flexible, stable, and cost‑effective. Leadership required faster promotion updates, enterprise integrations (order management, search, checkout), a replatform under 12 months, and lower ongoing costs so resources could shift to customer experience.

Staples migrated to Shopify Plus in under 12 months—at roughly half the time and cost of competing enterprise vendors—and integrated it with its ERP. The new platform let the team run 4x more promotions per day, roll out click‑and‑collect across all Canadian stores in under 72 hours, and scale through Black Friday/Cyber Monday and a 30‑day COVID demand surge with virtually no performance issues. Results included record BFCM sales and traffic, with transactions and revenue more than doubling during the March–April 2020 peak.
