A Shopify Case Study
SoYoung, a Toronto-based baby gear brand, was born when the founder—after leaving a finance career and becoming a parent—designed a practical diaper bag to solve a real parenting problem. Early manufacturing tests with a Montreal maker proved the product viable but costly, so the company developed specs and partnered with overseas factories (with North American agents for negotiations and quality control) to scale production.
To grow sales SoYoung used retail and trade shows to build awareness, then launched a Shopify-powered site that helped attract press and bloggers and capture direct customers. They automated operations with integrations (MailChimp, Help Scout, Google Shopping, soon Xero), outsourced fulfillment, and expanded into 400+ stores and eight territories; online now represents over 25% of revenue and a larger share of profits.
