Smiley Honey, a family honey business founded in 1989 and acquired by the current owner in 2012, had a dated but well-ranked website that was difficult to manage and not user friendly. Custom redesigns were prohibitively expensive, so the owner sought a more affordable, modern ecommerce platform.

They migrated to Shopify with help from a Shopify Expert and launched the new site in June 2013, using MailChimp, new product labels and local print ads to move existing customers over. Today more orders come through Shopify than the old site, some keywords now rank on page one, and the owner uses Shopify for payments and a card reader, MailChimp for marketing, and standard Shopify reports—expecting another 6–12 months before retiring the old site entirely.
