Serious Serum is a skin-care product created by Urban Waxx, a Portland wax-only salon founded in 2007. After failing to find an effective aftercare solution for clients, the owner developed Serious Serum in 2008 and launched it online in 2012, partnering with a chemist and packaging company to produce and ship bottles to Portland for fulfillment.
The brand first sold in salons and at esthetics trade shows, then exploded after a Pinterest pin by Olivia Palermo drove monthly sales from $2,800 to $25,000.
