Rivalry Trophy (rivalrytrophy.com) started in Michigan in 2009 when Michigan State fans, unable to buy a Paul Bunyan–style rivalry trophy, decided to make their own. The fan project grew into a licensed Big Ten vendor that now produces eight well-known college football rivalry trophies.

Early sales came from Michigan State message boards, where link sharing and word-of-mouth drove rapid growth through their Shopify store. To scale, they use Shippo for fulfillment and are moving operations from two basements into a local warehouse; they recommend experimenting with apps and leveraging Shopify to focus on product quality and customer service.
