Recess is a San Francisco–based brand founded by a group of friends frustrated with the same old brown-and-black men’s wallets and the high price tags from luxury houses. They set out to make premium, personality-driven wallets—think bold linings and high-quality leathers—at accessible prices. Leathers are sourced locally in the Bay Area from suppliers working with tanneries in Italy, Spain and the U.S., and final production is handled by a small overseas factory that manufactures for established fashion names.

To launch the brand they ran a successful Kickstarter and saw their first sales driven by media and blogs; today most traffic comes from direct search, referrals from major publications (Esquire, GearHungry) and Facebook ads. Operationally they run on Shopify with AdRoll and Facebook Ads for retention and acquisition, Evernote for team coordination, and Stamps.com for postage. The result is a streamlined e-commerce business with growing brand recognition and consistent sales channels.
