Nebraska Bison, run by Randy and Jane Miller in Adams, Nebraska, is a family-raised bison meat business that moved from local sales to selling direct-to-consumer online as demand grew. Their first online store—set up through a fulfillment provider—was not search-engine friendly and limited growth, while shipping frozen, perishable product posed a major logistical and cost challenge.

In April 2012 they relaunched on Shopify and paired the store with a WordPress blog, investing in Google AdWords, organic SEO and a content strategy centered on recipes and product education promoted via Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Traffic doubled and key blog posts began ranking on the first page for target keywords, driving steady monthly sales growth; fulfillment is handled by a third-party center to reach customers nationwide within 2–3 days despite higher shipping costs.
