Mushmina is a Wayne, PA–based accessories brand founded in 2009 by two sisters to employ and empower artisans in Morocco and Mali. They design fair‑trade handbags, scarves, and jewelry in collaboration with more than 85 artisans, opened a retail shop in 2012 and launched a Shopify store in November 2012. Their biggest challenge is translating the personal storytelling and artisan connection that sells in person into an equally compelling online experience to grow e‑commerce revenue.

To address this they integrated Lightspeed POS with Shopify for unified inventory management, run weekly Mailchimp campaigns that have become their top online sales driver, and handle fulfillment in‑house with FedEx and USPS. Their trunk shows and retail shop remain their strongest sales channels, but the tech and marketing systems they’ve put in place have improved operations and positioned Mushmina for planned online expansion while maintaining their fair‑trade mission.
