MixedMade is a Brooklyn-based startup that launched Bees Knees Spicy Honey as a 30-day experiment to prove how quickly and cheaply a business can be started today. The founders set out to validate demand, generate early sales, and run the company lean without heavy investment — all while documenting costs, mistakes and learnings to inspire other entrepreneurs.
They built the store on Shopify and used a stack of lightweight tools (ShippingEasy, Xero with Carry The One, Yotpo, MailChimp, Buffer, a Dymo label printer, Canva, etc.) to automate operations. Early traction came from a personal Facebook post and later from food bloggers and stylists, leading to national and international orders plus local retail partnerships and wholesale via discount codes; most backend tasks are now largely automated and affordable.
