Lindt opened its first ecommerce store in 5 days to serve customers in a COVID-19 world

Lindt & Sprüngli Canada, preparing for its busy Easter season during its 175th anniversary, faced a sudden crisis when COVID-19 forced the closure of all 56 Canadian stores and left the company with seasonal inventory but no ecommerce capability. A planned 2021 online launch had to be accelerated immediately to avoid missing one of the company’s largest annual sales periods.

Lindt partnered with Shopify Plus on Mar 25 and launched an online store in five days, going live Mar 31 with 40 SKUs and buy-online curbside pickup at 16 stores. The simple catalog and pickup flow drove strong demand, delivered a personal customer experience during Easter, and generated positive feedback—Lindt is now expanding online functionality with local delivery, additional languages, and broader inventory.
